About Us

Formed in 1970 the Tees Valley Jazzmen have been thrilling audiences in the North of England and the rest of the known World with their own brand of polished, exciting, entertaining and above all swinging Dixieland jazz.

The bands wide reputation has been earned through their recordings and performances at civic occasions, national sporting events and jazz and arts festivals at home and abroad. The Jazzmen are one of the top bands in the North of England being known to jazz fans through their regular venues and are much in demand for weddings, birthdays, conferences and dinner dances, etc.

The band perform regularly at leading British jazz clubs and festivals such as Bude, Edinburgh, Keswick and Upton on Severn, etc, and do two or three tours "on the road" each year playing at top jazz clubs in the Midlands and South England. Overseas tours include France, Germany, Sweden and the USA with two appearances at the Sacramento Dixieland Jubilee, the largest traditional jazz festival in the world.

The Tees Valley Jazzmen plays its own Dixieland style but draws inspiration from the creative phrasings and improvisation of the masters. The success of this was publicised by the Times jazz critic, Alyn Shipton, in his coverage of the 1996 Bude Jazz Festival praising bands with individual styling he wrote "this approach paid dividends for the excellent Tees Valley Jazzmen, whose vocalist Sue Kibby sung a magnificent capella, - "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" Sue Kibby first met the band twenty years ago, she has recorded with them and regularly accompanies the band on tour.

Many world class jazz artists have worked with the band, including Roy Williams, Digby Fairweather, Peter Allen, Monty Sunshine, Alan Elsdon, etc.

The Tees Valley Jazzmen are also keen supporters of charity and in particular The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and have played at many fundraising events in the past. With more of these events scheduled in the near future, they plan to show their continual support to the charity.
