At 17 while learning Clarinet joined the band of the 2nd Battalion the Durham Light Infantry.

A founder member of the ERM Jazz Band, which was very popular on Teesside in the late 50's and 60's.

Ten years ago was given a soprano saxophone as a retirement present.

Joined the Tees Valley Jazzmen when their long-term clarinetist, Dave Lawson, left to live in Portugal.

Main influences are Jonny Dodds, Sandy Brown, Benny Goodman, and Ken Peplowski.
